UCLA’s capacity for excellence and compassion is as boundless as the generosity of its stakeholders. An April 8 Centennial countdown celebration in San Diego served as proof of both. Anticipating the university’s 100th anniversary in 2019, the event was held at Birch Aquarium at Scripps, with a view of the Pacific Ocean. The program was an inspiring illustration of how philanthropists and UCLA come together to inspire each other and ignite progress.
Donors, faculty, and students past and present shared stories of how gifts to the Centennial Campaign for UCLA are opening doors that will lead to a better world. And the spirit of generosity is alive and well in San Diego, where more than 5,200 donors have contributed nearly $33 million to the campaign.
A Student Voice
Students are among the beneficiaries of that support, and microbiology and immunization student James Cevallos ’17 was part of the program: “During my time as an undergraduate, I was a clinical research associate for one of the top neurologists in the country. I could not have done that without financial support from a scholarship.” After graduating this year, Cevallos plans to dedicate his future to research that will save lives.
UCLA advocates in San Diego, Los Angeles, in between, and beyond look out at different vistas. But they share a vision for a place where ambition meets opportunity and remarkable results follow. That place is UCLA.
